Valter Lopes holds a degree in Civil Engineering and a master’s in Civil Engineering Structures from FEUP. He has been working in the area of heritage rehabilitation since 2006, being a founding partner of NCREP. He is also a founding partner of APRUPP (the Portuguese Association for Urban Rehabilitation and Heritage Protection).

He has participated in various projects involving the inspection, diagnostics, structural analysis and sizing of rehabilitation and strengthening solutions for existing buildings.

He has published numerous articles in conference proceedings and journals, at both national and international level. These publications have focused on the inspection, diagnostics and rehabilitation/structural strengthening of old buildings, with particular emphasis on masonry and reinforced concrete structures. He has co-supervised theses in the area of rehabilitation of existing built structures for the integrated master’s degree in Civil Engineering at FEUP, having been, at times, a visiting lecturer at the University of Aveiro (UA).
