Inspection and Diagnosis, Structural Design
NCREP was responsible for developing the work of Inspection and Structural Diagnosis and the Stability Project at the Church of Santa Cruz in Braga.
The goal is to rehabilitate the roof by providing it with the safety and use conditions necessary for its proper functioning. For this, it will be necessary to improve and (or) restore the structural safety conditions of some of the elements to be maintained and to design new structural elements that should be compatible with pre-existences.
The technical visits allowed a constructive characterization of the roof, masonry walls and vaults, to define the existing structural schemes and to evaluate the damages existing at the date of the visits. These actions were fundamental to achieve a project aimed at the real structural problems that the coverage presented.
Inspection and diagnosis actions play a key role in any rehabilitation project. Only a good identification of the characteristics of the existing structure and its state of conservation allows the realization, a posteriori, of a project duly sustained and adapted to the conditions of the building, directed to the solution of the real problems of the structure, optimizing solutions and the final cost of interventions.
