Inspection and Diagnosis, Safety Assessment, Structural Design
NCREP was responsible for developing the (i) Structural Inspection and Diagnosis and (ii) the structural strengthening design project of the roof and gallery of the Salão Árabe – Palácio da Bolsa, Porto.
The project was also based on a succinct architectural survey, which serves as support for the work carried out. Consideration was given to the intention to open the mezzanine in the Arabian Hall to the public.
The objective of the intervention project is to rehabilitate the existing building in the intervention area by providing it with the safety and use conditions necessary for its proper functioning, and it is necessary to restore and / or improve structural safety conditions in accordance with the damage strength of the existing structural elements.
In particular, all the elements to be introduced, including new structures and (or) new materials, have been duly evaluated so as not to damage or alter the operation or physical and chemical stability of existing structural or structural elements.
Inspection and diagnosis measures play a key role in any rehabilitation project. Only a good identification of the characteristics of the existing structure and of its conservation state allows (i) the realization of a project duly sustained and adapted to the conditions of the building, (ii) the definition of solutions directed to solving the real structural problems and (iii) optimizing both solutions and the final cost of intervention.
