Short duration static load tests on structures

A load test consists on loading a structure by steps and, simultaneously, on measuring the corresponding displacements and (or) deformations on pre-defined positions. These tests have the purpose to identify the behavior of a structure under loading and unloading conditions, providing information, by load step, on deformations, supports’ settlements, formation of cracks and (or) opening of existing cracks. The results, supported by more or less complex numerical simulation tools, allow evaluating the structural behavior, the loading capacity and the safety conditions of a structure.
