Workshop Tabique Walls

NCREP participated on the Traditional Tabique and Mortar Workshop held on the 26 November 2016 in Porto City Centre. This workshop had the objective of sharing NCREP's experience on Inspection, Diagnosis and Rehabilitation of timber structures and also our most recent contributes to the state of art in what concerns the bearing capacity of Tabique walls (Simple and Double).

Building in Rua do Rosário, Porto

Rehabilitate the building by providing it with the security and use necessary for its proper functioning as a living space, preserving and valuing its original architectural qualities.

This 20th century building, facing the Rua do Rosário in Oporto, underwent a rehabilitation / reinforcement intervention of the existing structural elements, taking into account their specific technical, economic and architectural requirements. In this sense, as a first step, the NCREP carried out a set of inspection and diagnostic actions in order to characterize the structural elements and examine their conservation status. Through in-situ experimental testing and visual inspection it was possible to conclude that this building is in good condition with no significant damage to the structural elements, particularly wood floors, stairs and roof, as well as stone masonry walls. However, at the design stage, it was necessary to define a set of structural solutions to improve the safety of the building, particularly the top floor and wooden trusses, both with new wood elements, in order to harmonize with the existing structural system. Also noteworthy is the solution with steel profiles that materializes the mezzanine structure on the ground floor, following the proposed architectural design.

R&D - Tabique Walls

NCREP - Consultancy and Rehabilitation of Built Heritage Lda, in collaboration with PORTILAME and CS Construtora, will promote an exploratory experimental campaign to evaluate the mechanical behaviour of Simple and Double Light Timber Frame Walls (known in Portugal as Tabique Walls), using full scale specimens. The tests will be carried out at the Laboratory of Seismic and Structural Engineering (LESE) of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).

Rua do Rosário, Porto

Reabilitar o edifício dotando-o das condições de segurança e utilização necessárias ao seu bom funcionamento como espaço de habitação, preservando e valorizando as suas qualidades arquitectónicas originais.

O edifício, datado do século XX e com frente para a Rua do Rosário no Porto, foi alvo de uma intervenção de reabilitação/reforço estrutural do existente, a qual se pretendeu que atendesse às exigências técnicas, económicas e aos requisitos arquitectónicos.

Neste sentido, numa primeira fase o NCREP realizou um conjunto de acções de inspecção e diagnóstico, com o intuito de caracterizar os elementos estruturais e analisar o seu estado de conservação.

Através dos ensaios e da inspecção visual na primeira fase, conclui-se que este edifício se apresentava em bom estado de conservação, sem danos relevantes nos elementos estruturais de madeira, nomeadamente pavimentos, escadas e cobertura, e nas paredes resistentes de alvenaria de granito.

Contudo, em fase de projecto foi necessário proceder à melhoria das condições de segurança estrutural do pavimento do último piso e asnas da cobertura, ambos  intervencionados com novos elementos de madeira compatíveis com o sistema estrutural existente. Destaca-se também a solução com perfis metálicos que materializa a estrutura da mezzanine do rés-do-chão, desenvolvida na sequência do projecto de arquitectura.
